How do I edit a study?
Use Plan to shape the research outline and Build to edit the blocks respondents will see. Manual edits do not use AI credits; AI-assisted actions do.
Use the sidenav
Section titled “Use the sidenav”The sidenav on the left keeps the whole study in view, so you can jump to any step without scrolling. On a small screen, open it with the Open menu button at the left of the top bar. Click Studies at the top to go back to your studies.
- Context opens a dialog where you write what the study should find out, so the in-app agent has something to work from. On Core and Pro, you can also attach a .md file there.
- Respondent flow lists the study in the order respondents see it, from Welcome to Thank you. The steps in between are numbered from 1. Each one shows its content, with its type below. Select a step to jump to it.
- Add step adds a step at the end of the flow. Choose a block type from the picker.
While the study is still a plan, the heading reads Planned flow, with Not built yet beside it. Add step there starts the study from the block you pick.
Reorder steps
Section titled “Reorder steps”If the order is not right, drag a step to a new place in the sidenav. To use the keyboard, focus a step, press Space to pick it up, and use the arrow keys to move it. Welcome and Thank you stay in place. Reordering in the sidenav is not available on a phone.
Collapse the sidenav
Section titled “Collapse the sidenav”To give the page more room on a computer, collapse the sidenav to icons. Click the toggle beside the back link, Studies on a study page and Launches on a launch page. Point at or focus an icon to see its name. Fiuto remembers your choice on every page.
The main navigation collapses the same way. Click the toggle beside the Fiuto logo.
On a phone, the sidenav opens from the menu and does not collapse.
Edit the plan
Section titled “Edit the plan”Open Plan to change the study goal, audience, or sequence before working on individual questions. A study created from scratch opens on this tab first.
You can edit the plan yourself or ask the in-app agent to revise it. Review the result, then click Build from plan in the bar at the bottom of the page to turn the outline into blocks.
Edit the blocks
Section titled “Edit the blocks”Open Build to work on the respondent-facing study. Each step is a card that looks the way respondents see it, between a Welcome card and a Thank you card. Click a card to open it and edit it in place. You can:
- Rewrite questions, instructions, labels, and answer options.
- Replace images, prototype links, and website links.
- Add, reorder, or duplicate steps.
- Delete steps you no longer need.
Manual changes save to the draft. They do not change a version that you already launched.
Use AI assistance
Section titled “Use AI assistance”Ask the in-app agent to draft blocks, rewrite a question, or suggest a block for a research goal. AI actions use credits. Check Plan & usage for your current balance and the cost of completed actions. Manual editing does not use AI credits.
Treat the result as a draft. Check the wording, method, options, and any asset placeholders before previewing.
Only editors and owners can use the AI on a study.
Open the AI panel
Section titled “Open the AI panel”Click Ask AI in the top bar, or press Cmd+J on a Mac or Ctrl+J on Windows and Linux. On a phone, tap the Ask AI icon in the top bar.
The button is called Ask AI on every page, so the panel opens the same way off a study page. See Ask AI from any page.
The panel opens at full height beside the page, and the page narrows to make room. On a phone it fills the screen. Click Close to put it away. Closing the panel does not stop a turn that is still running.
Type what should change and press Enter. Chat uses AI credits. If you send another message while the AI is working, it shows as Waiting to send and goes once the turn ends. Click New thread to start a fresh conversation.
Go back to an earlier thread
Section titled “Go back to an earlier thread”Fiuto saves each conversation in the panel as a thread, so you can pick one up where you left off. Click Threads in the panel header to see your threads for this study, newest first and grouped by date. Each one shows its time and how many messages it has.
Type in Search threads to find a thread by its title or by words in its messages. Click a thread to reopen it and keep talking. Click New thread at the bottom of the list to start a fresh one.
To delete a thread, point at it and click its delete button, then click Delete thread to confirm. On a phone, every thread shows its delete button. Its messages are removed for good. Changes it made to the study stay.
You can’t switch or delete a thread while the AI is replying. Wait for the turn to end first.
Only you can see your threads. On a study someone shared with you, the owner and other people keep their own threads, and you only see yours.
See what changed
Section titled “See what changed”A turn’s changes land on the page straight away. The turn starts with a summary of each change, for example Changed step 4, and the cards it touched show Just changed. Click a row in the summary to jump to its card. On a phone, the panel closes so you can see it.
Your edits win. If you were editing a step while the AI worked, it leaves that step as it is and adds a row such as Skipped step 5, with the reason.
Stop a turn
Section titled “Stop a turn”Click Stop beside Send while the AI is working. Changes the AI made before you stopped stay on the page. The turn says what they were, and you can still undo them.
Undo and redo a turn
Section titled “Undo and redo a turn”Click Undo under the latest turn that changed something to put back what it changed. The Undo tooltip reads “Undo this turn. It’s free.” After you undo, Redo brings the changes back.
Undo keeps your own work. If you edited a step after the turn, Undo leaves that step as you left it and says so, for example Step 6 stays as you left it.
Some things Undo can’t take back, such as deleting a study, launching it, or building steps from the plan. When a turn does one of these, its summary names what Undo leaves in place, for example Undo won’t take the study out of launch. Pause or stop it from Launches.
Ask about one step
Section titled “Ask about one step”Click Ask AI about this step in the tools on a step’s card. On a phone, open the card’s More actions menu and choose Ask AI about this step. The panel opens with that step attached above the message box, so your request is about that step.
Check questions and plan builds
Section titled “Check questions and plan builds”Open Ask AI and you will find Check questions pinned at the top of the panel. The card says an AI reads every step and suggests fixes, and that it uses AI credits. Click Run check to start it. The reply lands in the panel in two lists, You’ll need to do these and I can fix these. Nothing changes until you click Make the changes I can or Make these changes, which runs a turn you can undo.
Build from plan reports in the panel too, so you can follow the build there. Undo doesn’t remove steps built from the plan.
Preview before launching
Section titled “Preview before launching”Click Preview in the bar at the bottom of the page to open the respondent view in a new tab. Preview answers are not saved. Once the flow looks right, launch a frozen version for respondents.
