When should I use an AI interview?
Use an AI interview when you want the reasons behind what people do, not just their first answer. An AI interviewer talks with each respondent, one question at a time. It reads every answer and picks the next question from a guide you write, so each interview stays on your goal.
When to reach for it
Section titled “When to reach for it”Reach for an AI interview when you can say what you want to learn but not the exact questions to ask. It suits early, exploratory research, and any question where a single open text answer would stop too soon. If one fixed question is enough, open text is quicker to read back.
A study holds one AI interview. Once it has one, the block picker shows the AI interview as unavailable and says why.
Write the guide
Section titled “Write the guide”The guide steers the interviewer. Respondents never see it.
- Opening question. Every respondent reads this first, so make it easy to answer.
- What you want to learn. The interviewer keeps its follow-ups pointed at this goal.
- Interviewer persona. How the interviewer sounds, like warm and curious.
- Background. Optional facts the interviewer can rely on, like what your product does.
- Questions. Turn on Must ask for questions every interview should cover. The interviewer asks the others when there is time. Follow-ups sets how far it can dig into each answer.
- Most questions per interview. Lower it to keep interviews short.
Write questions that are open and do not suggest an answer.
Preview it for free
Section titled “Preview it for free”Try the interview yourself before real people see it. Click Preview interview on the interview step. Fiuto saves your latest changes, then opens a real interview in a new tab, on its own link.
Previews are free and never count toward your results. You get a daily allowance of preview interviews, and Fiuto tells you when you can preview again. A new preview replaces your earlier one. Only the study’s owner can preview the interview.
The study’s Preview button shows only the interview’s opening question. Use Preview interview to talk with the interviewer.
What respondents see
Section titled “What respondents see”Respondents get one short question at a time and type their answer. The interview tells them the most questions it may ask, and it may end sooner. They can click End interview at any time, and the answers they gave are kept.
If the interview cannot load, respondents can end it and carry on with the rest of the study.
Try it with synth testers
Section titled “Try it with synth testers”Synth testers take the interview too, in a shorter version. Click Test with AI to run a synth test and check that your guide gets useful answers before you launch.
Read the results
Section titled “Read the results”Open the launch and find the interview’s result card. It shows how the interviews ended, which must-ask questions they covered, and each interview word for word. Open one to read the whole conversation or copy its transcript.
Exports include each respondent’s transcript with the rest of their answers. See study results for how to export.
Plan limits and credits
Section titled “Plan limits and credits”AI interviews cost no credits. They are free within your plan’s limits. Depending on your plan, a limit applies to each launch, to your account each month, or both.
When a limit is used up, respondents skip the interview and finish the rest of the study. The launch page tells you when that starts, and when a monthly limit resets. Synth tests use credits as usual.
