How do I build a study?
Click New study, then start from a template, generate a study, or start from scratch. All three routes create an editable draft.
Start from a template
Section titled “Start from a template”Choose a template when a ready-made study is close to the research you want to run. Preview the plan and blocks, name the study, then click Create study.
The new study is your own copy. Change its questions, options, order, and assets without changing the template it came from.
Generate a study
Section titled “Generate a study”Choose the generate route, describe your research goal, and click Generate study. Include what you want to learn, who you want to hear from, and any prototype or asset you plan to test.
Fiuto drafts a plan and blocks for you. You can follow its progress in the AI panel, and the new study opens when it is ready. If you left the page in the meantime, the panel links to the study instead. Generation uses AI credits. Review the output before you launch, especially any example text or placeholder assets.
If generation gets stuck or fails
Section titled “If generation gets stuck or fails”The AI takes one task at a time. While it is replying, waiting for your answer to a question, or paused at a limit, Generate study asks you to wait or answer first instead of starting something new.
Generation locks the study while it runs so a second attempt in another tab cannot collide with it. If you see a message that the study is already being built in another tab, wait for the first attempt to finish, then try again. An attempt that was abandoned, for example by closing the tab, clears on its own after about 15 minutes, so a retry after that wait always starts fresh.
A generation that fails leaves behind an empty draft with no blocks. The Studies list marks it Failed instead of Draft, so it stays easy to find and clear out. Open the study’s menu and select Delete to remove it, then start a new one.
Start from scratch
Section titled “Start from scratch”Choose Start from scratch, name the study, and create it. A blank study opens on Plan. Write the outline you want to follow, then move to Build and add the blocks respondents will see.
You can also skip detailed planning. Click Add step in the sidenav, choose a block type, and the study opens in Build with that block. To give the in-app agent something to work from, click Context in the sidenav and write what the study should find out.
Work with blocks
Section titled “Work with blocks”Fiuto has 19 block types. To add a step at the end of the study, click Add step in the sidenav, then choose a type from the block picker. To add one between two steps, click the + between their cards. On a computer, it shows when you point at the gap. Edit a study covers the whole sidenav.
Click a step’s card to open it and edit it in place. The tools on the card’s top edge let you drag it to a new position, duplicate it, delete it, or make it required. On a phone, they sit in the row along the card’s bottom edge. You can also drag steps into a new order in the sidenav. See Reorder steps. Deleting a step removes it from the draft after confirmation and cannot be undone.
All 19 block types, including card sort, tree test, and matrix, are available on every plan, including Free. See Choose a study block for the complete catalog.
Add your own assets
Section titled “Add your own assets”Replace placeholder images, prototype URLs, website URLs, and example copy before previewing. The editor marks required fields that still need attention.
Ask AI from any page
Section titled “Ask AI from any page”You can get help from the AI without leaving the page you are on. Click Ask AI in the top bar of any page except Settings, or press Cmd+J on a Mac or Ctrl+J on Windows and Linux. On a phone, tap the Ask AI icon in the header.
On Studies, the panel suggests starter prompts under Ask AI, even before you have a study. Pick one or type your own.
On a study page, Check questions sits at the top of the panel. See Check questions and plan builds.
Off a study page, the panel opens on a new conversation. Your earlier conversations are in Threads. See Go back to an earlier thread.
